أم

أُمّ \ mother: a female parent. mum: mother. mummy: mother. \ أُمّ أربَعة وأربَعين \ centipede: an insectlike creature with very many legs. \ أُمّ الزّوج \ mother-in-law: one’s husband’s mother. \ أُمّ الزّوجة \ mother-in-law: one’s wife’s mother. \ أُمّ في العِمَاد \ godmother: sb. (not the parent) who promises (at a Christian child’s naming ceremony) to help the child to grow up as a good and religious person and to look after it, if the parents cannot.
